1. “I recently featured a hip-hop track from Dallas MC Tonio, who impressed the hell out of me with his finesse and wordplay. Then he hit me up on Twitter with this new track he’s got, featuring a fellow Texan Iroc Mics. I’ll be damned if this isn’t some of the freshest hip-hop I’ve heard in a while.”

  2. Review: Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1

    There once was a young Chicagoan named Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, who struggled for years to make a name for himself in the rap game. He was often left with thoughts of what “Coulda Been,” until one day his candid introspection caught the attention of none other than Jay-Z. Jay helped secure Wasalu a deal with Atlantic Records, and served as an executive producer on the MC’s acclaimed debut, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor.

  6. Pepperboy :: Days of Grace

    Little Rock’s own Pepperboy Davie sounds a little like Lil B, but with a lot more to say. Days of Grace is the emcee’s first tape to feature no profanity. That’s right, dope hip-hop without unnecessary expletives. It’s a win-win. Also, it’s a free download. Wins on wins on wins.

  8. Spotlight :: Johnny Astro

    I’ve been following Johnny Astro for a little while now and figure what better way to introduce the Texas emcee/producer to the unknowing world than to gather some of his best tracks all in one place for our collective listening pleasure.

    Astro crafts alternative hip-hop joints with a lot of soul and even more reverb. He’s a down-to-Earth guy and it shows in his wordplay. Plus, he makes better use of samples than just about any other underground beat maker I can name off the top of my head.

    Remember the name, kids. Johnny Astro will find a way in to your iPod soon enough. As a music blogger and as a friend, I firmly believe that dude is set to take over someday very soon.
